Withlacoochee Wilderness Challenge 2009 Canoe & Kayak Race

You are invited to compete in the Withlacoochee Wilderness Challenge 2009 Canoe & Kayak Race. This race is recreational class only.

This race is hosted by the Withlacoochee Area Residents. All proceeds raised help fund this organizations efforts to protect and preserve our areas water sources.
Registration Fees - $35 canoe - $25 kayak - $35 tandem kayak*

ALL racers will receive a race tee shirt. If you pre-register by April 23, 2009, you will be assured a race tee shirt, in your requested size, the day of the race. If you do not pre-register we cannot guarantee you a race tee shirt the day of the race. If we are unable to supply a race tee shirt on the day of the race it will be mailed to you.

Registration fee covers your entry into the race, a race tee shirt, water and various fruits. 1st place prizes for each category are a small paddle with class, race date and winning designation. Ribbons for 2nd and 3rd class with class, race date and winning designation.

Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve

Yankeetown is celebrating the grand opening of the Withlacoochee Gulf Preserve a Florida natural passive. The WGP is located at 1001 Old Rock Road, Yankeetown, FL (6.5 miles West on Hwy 40 from the traffic light at Hwy 40 & Hwy 19/98)

The celebration takes place Saturday, February 7th, 2009, 9.30 am to 4.00 pm A dedication ceremony will take place at 11.00 am. The all day event includes, music, food & beverages, kayak rides, gps/photo contest, and Environmental displays. Enjoy a pleaseent walk on the preserves groomed wilderness trails. One trail is a handicapped accessble boardwalk with a fantastic view of a natural salt pond. A 30ft observation tower is the highlight of another trail that takes you to an oak hammock with picnic tables, fishing dock, and restroom.
