| *WITHLACOOCHEE WILDERNESS** KAYAK AND CANOE CHALLENGE 2012* |
| Join the fun of the 4th Annual Withlacoochee Wilderness Kayak
and Canoe Challenge,10 a.m., Saturday, March 24th. Winding River
Park on Riverside Drive in Yankeetown will be the launch site for an
exciting paddle downriver to find clues and answer questions. The
approximate 4mile round trip will turn around at Bennett’s Creek,
end back at the park and has a 2 hour time limit. The individual
with the most correct answers will be the winner and prizes will be
awarded for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place. Hosted by Withlacoochee Area
Residents, Inc., all proceeds will help fund the efforts of the
organization to protect and preserve Florida’s Nature Coast and its’
water sources for the benefit of everyone. Registration fees received before March 17th are $25.00 per person. After March 17th registration will be $30.00 per person and will be at the launch site only (9:00am-9:30am). These fees include entry, hat, (guaranteed only for pre-registration), fruit, water and homemade lunch. After the Challenge, participants and spectators will gather at the Yankeetown-Inglis Woman’s Club for awards, door prizes from our sponsors and lunch. The club is located on 56th Street just north of the park and is providing this year’s lunch of a large homemade pulled pork sandwich with beans, slaw and tea. Those not participating can purchase lunch; adults-$8.00, children-$5.00 and sandwiches-$4.00. Bring your family and friends for a great day in the park. The Woman’s Club Thrift Shop will open at 10 a.m. for those who want to check out all the bargains that arrive daily. Join in the fun of the Second Annual Withlacoochee Wilderness Canoe & Kayak Race and Rally, 9:30AM, April 10th. Hosted by Withlacoochee Area Residents, Inc., all proceeds will help fund the efforts of the organization to protect and preserve Florida’s Nature Coast and its’ water sources for the benefit of everyone. The By-Pass Spillway Park located off CR 40 in Inglis will be the launch site for an exciting trip down the river. This year's Challenge offers two options for the participants…Option one is a Race with men’s kayak, women’s kayak, and tandem kayak/canoe categories. Option two is a River Rally, no class or gender groups, for those who choose to just relax and enjoy the scenery. The rally requires the participants to find clues and answer questions as they paddle down the river. The individual with the most correct answers will be the winner. The Race and River Rally will both start at the Inglis By Pass Spillway of the Withlacoochee River and head west. The River Rally will travel approximately 5 miles and end at the Winding River Park in Yankeetown. The Racers will pass the park and continue approximately one mile to the Yankeetown Marina, turn around and head back to the Winding River Park, making an approximate 7 mile trek. Lunch will be served and awards presented at the Park before participants are shuttled back to the By Pass Spillway and their vehicles Registration fees received before March 26th are $35 canoe - $25 kayak - $35 tandem kayak. Any entries after March 26th will be at the launch site only (8am-9am) and are - $40 canoe - $30 kayak - $40 tandem kayak. These fees include entry, race hat (guaranteed only for pre-registration), fruit, water and lunch.
